Introducing Berkeley eProtocol
Berkeley eProtocol is a user-friendly, online system for submitting, tracking, reviewing, and approving OPHS/CPHS human research protocols. Berkeley eProtocol will replace the current paper-based process, starting with the exempt review process and expanding to expedited and full committee applications as it is rolled out over the coming months. Read more about Berkeley eProtocol.

Reviewing Exempt Applications and Non-Exempt Xlab Applications
We are now using Berkeley eProtocol for the review of exempt applications and Experimental Social Science Laboratory (Xlab) applications. If your project does not qualify for exempt status or fit within the scope of the Xlab Master Protocol, you will need to submit a paper application for review in the old-fashioned way. We strongly recommend that you discuss your project with an OPHS analyst before submitting an application via eProtocol.

For information about research that qualifies for review under the Xlab Master Protocol, see Information for Researchers: The Xlab.

For information about what it means to qualify as exempt, categories, and examples of exempt research, see the CPHS Guidelines on Exempt Research.

What Do You Think About eProtocol?
Berkeley eProtocol is a work in progress. Help us to better facilitate the review process for you by sending comments, complaints, and compliments to OPHS eProtocol Project Manager Maria Savage (mcsavage@berkeley.edu).
