CPHS will continue as two Institutional Review Board (IRB) Committees for 2009-2010 to more efficiently accommodate the increasing number of research protocols being submitted. Only protocols that will be reviewed by the full CPHS board must adhere to the submission deadlines in order to be considered for review at a particular CPHS meeting. All Continuing Review full board protocols should be submitted 8 weeks in advance of their expiration dates. The deadline for new submissions for Full Committee Review is generally the first Monday after the last (previous) meeting of that Committee I or II. Please note there are no meetings in July.

Protocols submitted for Exempt level review and determination or protocols submitted for Expedited level review and approval by a sub-Committee of CPHS are reviewed on a first-come, first-served rolling basis. Any exception to this review priority must be approved by the OPHS Director.

CPHS - I This committee will review all Optometry, most of the School of Public Health protocols, and an assortment of other Social-Behavioral/Biomedical studies as needed. Jonathan Banda is the lead OPHS Staff member for this committee.

CPHS - II This committee will review all Psychology and Information Technology, most Education and Business protocols, and most other Social-Behavioral/Humanities protocols and some Biomedical studies as needed. Louise Tipton is the lead OPHS Staff member for this committee.

Please note that if you are submitting a protocol for Continuing Review which expires early in the month you must plan on submitting it for an earlier CPHS meeting to ensure that it does not expire prior to review and re-approval.

The OPHS Director and the Chair of CPHS have final authority on whether a protocol can be added to a particular meeting agenda.
